DIY Faux and Fresh Flower Bouquet Box

Reuse some old gift boxes and make your own DIY flower bouquet box

I am always collecting tea sets, and these tea sets always come in the prettiest of boxes. I hate to throw these in the bin. So, I decided to reuse them and turn them into pretty floral display boxes.

You might have seen these DIY flower bouquet boxes on Instagram or Pinterest. They are popular, but they can be expensive to buy from the florists.

In today’s post, I am sharing how you how to make both bouquet boxes. I have two methods, using both fresh and faux flowers. These were much easier to make than I expected.

I also used some real flowers from Aldi which kept the costs down. I also have a Youtube video which will give you a better idea of how I made these flower boxes. These are quick make, and you would easily make these in an afternoon.

What you will need to make your DIY flower boxes

  • Hat boxes, old teacup boxes or any pretty box of your choice.
  • Polystyrene for faux flowers and oasis for fresh flowers.
  • A wire cutter if you are using faux flowers.
  • Faux flowers or fresh bunches of flowers depending on which box you make. I got my faux flowers in Dunnes Stores and my real ones from Aldi, I used two bunches.
  • Some plastic for your fresh flower arrangement.
  • Ribbon to decorate your boxes.

When making the faux flower box, I cut some polystyrene to size and inserted it into the hatbox. I then cut each artificial flower to the desired size using my wire cutters. Faux flowers have wire inside them, so make sure to be extra careful when cutting them.

I inserted them into the polystyrene and packed them in tightly. Once I was happy with how the bouquet boxes looked, I then added some ribbon to the front of the box.

How to make a fresh flower bouquet box

When making the fresh flower boxes, I lined each box with some plastic. I used a clear plastic bag and cut it to size. Ensure you have no holes in your plastic as you do not want your box to get water damaged.

I soaked the oasis in the sink so it would absorb lots of water. I then placed the oasis inside the boxes and added my flowers. You can have fun using different types of flowers and get creative with your flower displays.

Now, I am no florist, but I got some fresh flower bouquets from Aldi and added them in, I just cut the stems to size. I experimented with adding them into the box and arranged them until I was happy with how they looked. I then added a ribbon in a matching colour to the outside of the box.

These flower boxes make amazing presents, and you can save your pennies and reuse an old hat box that you might already have. For the cost of some oasis and flowers, you can make an expensive looking flower display to gift to someone.

Whether you choose to make a real or faux display, these look fab in the home and not to mention! They are very Instagrammable.
