I love hacking items from Ikea and today I am sharing with you how to hack an Ikea Forhoja cart into a garden potting bench. For a long time, I have wanted to make myself an area in my garden where I could pot my plants, store my pots and have a workbench.
I was going to try and make one from scratch but I decided to use an item from Ikea instead. This is a really simple hack and I am sharing how I gave it a makeover in this week’s Youtube video.
I had a look on the Ikea website as I know they can have smaller shaped pieces of furniture. I stumbled across the Forhoja cart. I had a look on Pinterest and I noticed a lot of people were hacking these for their kitchen. I decided to use this in the garden as it is nice and narrow and can be easily moved.
I painted my piece with Autentico Versante matt in the shade “Blushed”. If you want more info and tips on painting furniture then head to my post where I cover all things painting related. I also have an affiliate code with the guys at Autentico, use the code DAINTY10 for 10% off your order. They also ship within Ireland too.
You can add an extra layer of sealer to your project to protect it from being outside. You can also cover it over in Wintertime so you get longer out of your piece.
The trolley itself has a wide enough shelf area so you can store any of your unused pots or containers of compost. It feels so good to finally have an area in the garden to work from. I also added a shelf above my potting bench. I simply drilled in some brackets and added an old scaffold board shelf to it.
I then added some trinkets that I had lying around to style it up. Pretty as well as being practical.
Below is the video where I share all the details on how I achieved this look for my potting bench. If you enjoy my Youtube channel then please hit the subscribe button and give it a thumbs up. You can also check out my other garden DIYs for more inspiration.
