I am still on a decluttering buzz. January is a great month to sort through areas of your home that have become dumping grounds for clutter. This week I tackled my hot press or linen cupboard as some might call it. I also tackled my really small utility space. Both of these areas have been growing clutter since before Christmas. I hated even opening the door to the hot press as items would literally fall out. I decided to tackle it head on and declutter these spaces. I also have a Youtube video sharing the process of how I decluttered and organised both of my spaces.
Organize The Hot Press
My hot press had become an unorganised dumping ground. Generally, I like to keep only my towels and linen in my hot press. However, I would throw my jacket and coat in here and I would also throw piles of washed clothes in here. Piles would tumble down on top of me and my ironing board would also fall out too. I started the decluttering process by removing everything from the shelves into a pile on the floor. I went through each item and I made piles for donation and piles to be kept. I bagged up all of the items for the charity shop and I then sorted through the items I wanted to keep. I picked up some baskets from HomeSense and Heatons to organise my towels and bed linen. The baskets keep them neat and organized on the shelves. I folded up all my blankets and added them to a basket. I also added a coat hook to the back of my door. Adding the coat hook gave me a space to hang my coats out of sight. I also added a small basket so I could store my hats and scarves. I am so happy with how this turned out. I can see what items I have and it is easier to keep them organized.
Declutter My Utility Space
I think I have the worlds smallest utility area. I have a really small area tucked away in my kitchen that stores my washing machine. As you can see from the before images I had been dumping my piles of unwashed clothes on top. I had zero shelves or storage in this area so things just piled up. I started by clearing away all of my clothes and washed them. I then added a floating shelf above the washing machine. I store the cat litter, cat food and washing liquid here so adding the shelf was perfect for organizing and storing these items. I also found a new area for my ironing board and I have it tucked in beside my fridge. I added some sticky hooks to the wall so I could hang up my mop and sweeping brush. Hanging these gave me more floor space and stopped them from falling over.
You can catch my Youtube video below and see how I decluttered and organized my home. Do let me know if you have any areas in your home that you need to tackle and declutter. I also have to tackle my wardrobe and my kitchen presses. Please let me know if you would like to see me tackle those in a video.
