Everyday makeup routine and how I cover pigmentation | Video

My everyday makeup routine

I finally got around to filming my everyday makeup routine. I suffer from hyperpigmentation and it is one of the reasons why it has taken me so long to do a video. Baring your face and its flaws to the internet is a little bit scary but I wanted to help people who also suffer from it and I am sharing all of the products I use to camouflage it.

I was in my early twenties when I first started to notice patches of pigmentation develop on my face. I had a small patch on the right side of my face above my temple. I wish back then I had taken better care of it, as over the years it has since grown. I have also developed a smaller patch on the left side of my face. It is really frustrating because I am not a sun worshipper or someone who uses sunbeds and I make sure to wear a high SPF on my face to stop it from getting worse. A common cause for hyperpigmentation can be pregnancy or the oral contraceptive pill. Sunbeds and too much sun definitely don’t help. My best advice for anyone who has noticed patches of pigmentation is to get out of the sun completely and make sure you are using a separate SPF to the one in your foundation.
When something is on your face it can be really debilitating. I have had people comment on my marks when I have had no makeup on. Some people have thought it was a bruise or dirt on my face. So, you can understand why I want to hide behind my make up. Now that it is Winter I have been taking better care of my skin. I have been taking my makeup off as soon as I get home from work and embracing the bare face. I hope I can get to a point where I feel confident enough to wear less makeup and even pop to the shops bare faced.

In the past, I have used some creams to try and lighten my patches of pigmentation but so far nothing has worked. Instead, I try and camouflage it and accept it. In the future, I would like to maybe go to a dermatologist and see what sort of treatment there is. I am, however, worried it might make the patches darker or worse.

I will leave a little widget below, where you can shop the items I use on my face and you can click the video below to watch my everyday makeup video. Be warned! It was my first attempt at a makeup video so it isn’t amazing but do please let me know if you found it useful. I understand how frustrating it is having hyperpigmentation and finding products that actually cover it.

Please let me know if you have any skincare suggestions for treating hyperpigmentation. Have you tried any treatments? and do you have your go-to products that help? Please let me know in the comments section below or tag me over on Instagram.

As always enjoyed your video even at my age I still learn something about using makeup. Most of my life I have had trouble finding makeup that is both good for my face and does not make me like I stand out. So I am going to try some of the colors you are using because I feel they would work better for my fair complexion and blue eyes. Again thanks for sharing One thing would you ever consider doing a video on showing how to make one of your bears I have 7 grandkids and I would love to make one for each of them out of some of their baby outfits. Thanks again.

You're absolutely lovely without and with makeup. This video was as good as, if not better, than those put out by so-called beauty bloggers. Also, you've just proven that you don't need a ton of makeup to enhance your appearance. I'm so glad that I found your channel! You're so straight forward and honest. Very refreshing! 🙂

Hello Catherine, you're so cute and chatty. Thanks for that helpfull video. Yes, like many, I wouldn't have guess about your hyperpigmentation. I have it a bit and the opposite (whiter patches) as I have darker skin. I used to have adult acne for long. Untill my late thirties! So I recently discovered that anti-aging serum from LaRoche-Posay does help to diminish scars, spots and patches. It's about 30$ (20€?). Maybe you'll find it at your chemist. And Wayne Goss, from the UK, makes great YouTube makeup tutorials, 5min or less, to the point, not sponsored 😉
