Video: How I decorate my home for Christmas

Christmas decor in Dainty’s

Hi everyone, Its Christmaaaaaas!

I made a fun youtube video for you guys to have a look and a nose around my house and a look at my style of decorating for Christmas.

I love a more classic style of decorating for this time of year. I love vintage and ornamental style decorations for the house, ones that I can collect over the years and they will be timeless and never look dated.

Each year I treat myself to a really nice decoration, this year I bought these two mice in their little gingham outfits. I just thought they were so adorable. I picked them up from Dunnes stores. I love the idea of adding to your collection each year with a really nice ornament as when they come down from the attic I love rummaging and reminiscing over the decorations and they bring back lovely memories.

I bulk up most of the decorating with wreaths and garlands. I use fake ones and I bought all of mine the first year we moved in and I make sure to wrap them up good each time they go back up to the attic for the next Christmas. This saves me loads of money as I am not buying new wreaths and garlands each year. I do love the smell of fresh wreaths and trees but for now I have the artificial ones. I have seen people going to wreath making classes which look so fun and I would love to try, I will have to plan that in for next year.

I decorate three main rooms in the house, the living room, my kitchen and my bedroom. I add some trinkets and wall hangings to the hall too. As my house is a dormer bungalow I like the christmas theme to flow smoothly so I stick to a colour palette of red, white and green. I love these traditional classic colours.

Next year I think I am going to add a bit of fun to the house and theme by bedroom, my bedroom is upstairs and I think I am going to do a white Christmas style theme up there. I will be keeping an eye on the January sales.

For the kitchen I love having fresh flowers. I simply change my colours to red and buy some festive flowers, they double up as a nice table centre piece too.

I have a garland running along the top to add some colour and a wreath above the cooker to make the kitchen cosy and festive.

If you want to add some sparkle then I love the pennies (primary) battery pack lights. These are amazing as you can put string lights everywhere and no need for extension leads and wires running everywhere. I use these in the kitchen and in the bedroom too. They instantly make a room feel more warm and twinkly.

Nothing beats flannel sheets! I wanted to make my bedroom more festive, I went looking for some new christmas bedding but I couldn’t find any nice ones, I think I left it too late ( note for next year) so I got these flannel checks style sheets from Dunnes and the little fleece throw and cushion is from Pennies.

I hope you enjoyed the Youtube video and the pics.

I would love to know what you think of the youtube videos and what type of videos you would like to see in the new year.

Thanks for stopping by.

Catherine.
