RHS Chelsea Flower Show – Guide To Getting Around

One of the highlights of this time of year for me is when The RHS Chelsea Flower Show rolls around. I was lucky enough to attend yet again this year and was utterly blown away. I was completely inspired by the beautiful displays.

The Chelsea Flower Show is a renowned event that attracts gardening enthusiasts, horticultural experts, and nature lovers worldwide. The show is full of vibrant displays of exquisite flowers, innovative garden designs, and inspirational exhibitions. It offers a delightful experience for all attendees.

However, navigating through the bustling crowds and making the most of your time at the Chelsea Flower Show can be a daunting task. Here are some photos from my trip, along with a guide and some tips if you plan on going next year!

Where Is The Chelsea Flower Show and How To Get There?

The Chelsea Flower Show takes place every year at the Royal Hospital Chelsea grounds in London. It’s conveniently accessible via various modes of public transportation.

Sloane Square Station is the nearest tube station, a 10-minute walk from the showground. If you plan on getting the train, London Victoria is the closest train station to the show. If you’re heading via bus, the following bus numbers stop closest to the showground; 11, 137, 211, 360, 170, 44 and 452.

When Is The Best Time To Go?

Chelsea can get extremely busy quickly, especially inside the Great Pavillion, where the show gardens are. Unlike Bord Bia Bloom, where the afternoon often gets quieter, Chelsea has a constant stream of people due to the morning and afternoon tickets. If you are someone who doesn’t like a lot of crowds, try and visit on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The show opens its doors to the public at 8 am. Arriving early will give you a chance to admire the gardens and displays before they become crowded. Plus, you’ll have more opportunities to engage with garden designers and experts who are usually available during the morning hours.

When To Get Tickets For Chelsea Flower Show?

If you want to ensure you secure the tickets for the days you want to go, try and purchase your tickets in the Spring when they go on sale. Tickets do tend to sell out quite quickly.

What To Wear To The Chelsea Flower Show?

While the RHS Chelsea Flower Show does not enforce a formal dress code, attendees often dress elegantly, with celebrities and royal family members setting the style standards. Since the event primarily occurs outdoors, it is advisable to prioritize practicality when selecting your attire.

Instead of opting for your floor-length ballgown, it’s wise to pack versatile outfits, including layers, sunglasses, and waterproof clothing. Women commonly choose day dresses, skirts, or trouser suits, often incorporating floral prints and botanical designs to pay tribute to the occasion.

Don’t Forget To Explore The Area!

If you are planning your visit to Chelsea, you will undoubtedly be excited about the main event but remember to explore the surrounding area. Many beautiful flower displays are all over the Chelsea area. So as you go to the showground, be sure to stop and admire the surroundings!
