Recycled Toilet Roll Craft Ideas

I have been saving up my empty toilet rolls and in today’s post, I am sharing some recycled toilet roll craft ideas. I have made some gift boxes that would be perfect for weddings favours and I also have used some of the toilet rolls as seedling starters. I have put together a video sharing how I made these which you can find at the end of this post and I also have some details on how I made these below as well as lots of pics. This is a really fun afternoon craft and it is child-friendly too. I also have some other DIY my rubbish posts which you can find here.

Recycled Toilet Roll Gift Boxes

Toilet rolls are so easy to fold into little pillow boxes and they would make perfect table favours for a party or wedding. They would also be fab to gift small items of jewellery or trinkets. I decided to paint some of mine and use some items from my craft stash to decorate my gift boxes. I also decoupaged on some pretty floral napkins to give them a shabby chic look. Check out the video below to see how I decorated my gift boxes.

Make Seedling Pots From Your Empty Toilet Roll

I am new to seeds so I have been loving all things seed related this Spring. I love growing in the garden but most of my flowers I have grown from bulbs or cuttings. So, this Spring I decided to have a go at planting seeds. I have some already growing on my window sill in a reused milk carton and I was delighted to hear that you can use empty toilet rolls to start seeds. The toilet rolls will decompose into the soil when you plant them outside too.

You can see in the video how I make the cuts to fold in the bottom of the toilet rolls. I then add some soil that is mixed specially for seedlings. I moisten the soil and add my seeds. I actually planted some sunflower seeds that I got from a fellow gardener who took them from her sunflowers from last year. You can follow the instructions on your seed packet as each variety of flower can be different. I also popped the toilet rolls into a tray and then I placed them on a sunny window sill. Make sure to acclimatise your seedlings before popping outside into the garden and do not put outside if there is a risk of frost. When you pop your flower into your container of flower bed the toilet roll will gradually decompose into the soil. Love this DIY. Would never have thought to decorate and make into a cute little box. Would be perfect when giving small presents!
We are using toilet rolls for our seeds this year too. We’ve planted carrot seeds in them so we can have them evenly spaced out. It’s fab that they decompose in the soil too!
Thanks for sharing another fab DIY!
