Dubai | Hot air balloon in the desert

Floating in the sky

Hi everyone, I am just back from an amazing trip in Dubai. I want to share a few posts on the things I did and places I explored whilst I was there. I also put together some Vlogs too and I will make sure to link them below. Before heading to Dubai I was looking online for things to do in the desert. I really wanted to go to the desert but I didn’t want to go dune bashing for fear I would puke all over the seat of the jeep! I also didn’t want to ride camels so when I stumbled across hot air balloons on Instagram I got excited. I took loads of photos too which I will share in this post.

I booked my hot air balloon experience with balloon adventures Dubai. I found them through their Instagram page. I was really happy with the service. They picked me up from my hotel and also dropped me back. I had an early start and got collected at 05:30am. We then drove to the desert and had a safety brief before the balloons started to inflate. I will admit, I did get a little nervous and scared when I arrived. I am a terrible flyer and not great with heights! But it was so worth it. I was fascinated watching how they inflated our balloons. A couple of balloons were inflating at the same time so when we were up in the sky we saw all the other balloons floating across the skyline.

It was beautiful to see the sun rising in the desert. I had a gorgeous morning with little or no wind and just a little bit of mist which was starting to clear. I had a few people asking me what it felt like. Being in the hot air balloon felt like floating. It was my first time to ever go on a hot air balloon so I didn’t know what to expect. Our Pilot was lovely too and full of knowledge. The basket was bigger than I thought. There were roughly twenty people in our basket. The balloon got to an altitude of four thousand feet. Then it went lower and higher and floated over sand dunes. We even got to see some wild animals running through the dunes below. We flew in the sky for about an hour. We had a really smooth landing too, I was worried about having a bumpy landing but it was really calm and smooth.

Once we landed, we were then taken to the conservation centre and we hopped into vintage land rovers. I felt like Indiana Jones! Of course, I had to get a photo with the red one that matched my dress! We drove in the sand and arrived at our location for breakfast. The place we had our breakfast was beautiful. It was full of character and tradition. On arrival, I had my first Arabic coffee with dates. It was delicious, I then had some poached eggs and salmon for breakfast which was delicious. The sun was starting to warm up and the sky was blue and clear and the colour of the sand was so vivid. We stayed there for roughly forty minutes and then we hopped back into our vintage land rovers and headed back to our vans. We were then dropped back to our hotels. I was back in my hotel by 11:30 which was great as I had the rest of my day to then go and explore.

I hope you enjoyed this post and the photos too. I really did have a fab time in the desert. It was actually my birthday so it was a great way to celebrate! Have you been on a hot air balloon? Would you like to? Comment below and let me know. Keep an eye out for my other Dubai posts which will be under the travel section of my website. This sounds so incredible!! I think hot air balloons are so pretty and majestic. I've never been in one though, I'm a scaredy cat! The fact that they are so smooth though might entice me to try one, the thing that scares me the most about flying is the bumpy-ness. I'm glad you had such a marvelous birthday!
