Recently, I got my hands on some adorable Tilda floral fabric, and I decided to make a table runner for my small kitchen table. I put together a video sharing how I made an easy sew table runner with mitre corners for you to try.
The table runner is a perfect project for beginners, so dust off the cobwebs on the sewing machine and have a try.
Click the video below to see how I stitched the table runner.
Where do you get Tilda fabric in Ireland?
Are you a fellow fan of adorable fabric as well? I hear you, and I get my Tilda fabric from The Crafty Fox in Drogheda. Click here for the current range of Tilda fabrics.
Sometimes I will get lucky and find some Tilda fabric on eBay. I will often search for Tilda fabric scraps as they are handy for making smaller sewing projects.
The floral fabric I used for the DIY table runner is Tilda Lucy Rose in red.
To make your table runner, you will need.
- Sewing pins
- A ruler or measuring tape
- Fabric marker
- A sharp fabric scissors
- An iron
- Sewing machine
Measure how long and wide you would like your table runner to be. As you can see in the video, I have a round table, and I just wanted my runner to sit across the tabletop with no overhang.
Use your fabric marker to mark the measurements onto the fabric and cut.
Iron a hem on all four corners of the fabric but before stitching mitre off the corners. ( Check out the video above to see how I did this )
Mitring the corners can feel counterintuitive, but once you sew one corner, you will find the other corners easy to mitre.
You can also use the same technique to make smaller napkins.
