Festival style garden party
This weekend I threw a party in my garden. I have wanted to throw one for ages, however, I don’t have any fancy garden furniture and my back garden is quite plain at the moment. When I was in Dubai earlier this year, I was really inspired by their relaxed outdoor decor. When on the beach I saw some girls drive up and when they got out of their jeep they started to lay down some rugs, cushions and a table and had they just relaxed on the beach. I loved the idea of just laying down some rugs and big pillows, it is such a simple idea but I had never thought of doing it. I decided to take the inspiration and throw a relaxed festival style garden party of my own. I was using the fact that my back garden was plain to my advantage.
The great thing about the rugs and pillows is that they don’t take up much space and can be easily stored in your shed or a cupboard in your house. The rugs I used are from TK Maxx. What I liked about them was that they are lightweight and folded neatly making them easy to store. You can probably pick these up in Homesense too.
I treated myself to some new plates and bowls from Dunnes Stores. I had been looking for some Moroccan printed bowls for ages but I couldn’t find any. I picked up these from Dunnes and they are plastic, so they are perfect to pack for a picnic.
I used an old palette as my tables. I sawed mine in half and we used these as our tables. You can pick up a wood palette easily enough and normally can get them for free. Just ask for them at delivery yards, warehouses and salvage yards.
I styled my party with props I had already in my home. I used some candles in the evening when it got cold and we wrapped up in some blankets too. The lightbulb style string lights are from Homestore and more. These lights work off solar panels which makes them easy to light up and you don’t have to worry about plugs outside.
You might remember my Ikea hack video where I made large outdoor cushions from rugs, You can check that video here. I also used my flower wall too for my party. If you want to make a DIY flower wall then check out this video below. I will also link my rug video too.
I hope you liked my pics of my party. I also have a Youtube video showing you how I decorated it and you can get a better idea of how I put it all together. Have you guys any plans for a party this Summer? Hopefully, this glorious weather that we are having lasts!

Hi Catherine, love this idea, going to try out these cushions for an outdoor seating area that is in the making!!
Can I ask if there was a particular stitch that you used on the machine? I am quite a novice with sewing machines, my mother-in-law is good so she will help out but wanted to check? I’m guna try a zip or buttons so they can come off for washing.
Thanks!! Stay safe. Jenny x
Aw, thanks, we had such a lovely weekend, blessed that the weather was so good too.
Ooh I love this idea! It's so much cozier than sitting around a table in normal chairs. It looks like you guys had a great time, Blondie included! 🙂
