Mother’s Day easy melt and pour Rose scented soaps

Easy Mother’s Day soap DIY

Hi everyone, this weekend after being snowed in for three days ( thanks, Storm Emma!) I had serious cabin fever! So, once I could get out of the house I headed straight for my local craft shop and I got topped up with some soap making supplies. You might have already seen my other soap making post from Christmas time where I used the melt and pour soaps to make some honey and Oatmeal soaps. I am using the same method today, however, I am using some Rose essential oil and some rose shaped moulds. I will list the step by step of how I make them below.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Here is a list of the items you need to make your melt and pour soaps.

– Soap base

– Glass measuring jug

– Wooden spoon

– Soap moulds ( silicone cake moulds are the same )

– Essential oils and ingredients to add to your soap, ie Rose, lavender, lemongrass essential oils and colourants.

– For this DIY I used some dried rose petals and dried  Lavender, this is optional.

In the video, you will see I used up the last of my Goats milk soap base that I used in my last soap making DIY. I also purchased a glycerine soap base in my local Inspiring Ideas, this was €8.99 for a block. You can pick up a lot of the items on Amazon. I find Amazon and eBay great for cake moulds, just be aware that some of these cheaper moulds come from China so they will take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

HOW TO MAKE

In my video, I made two types of soaps. I made a rose essential oil soap and I made a lavender and lemongrass soap. You can get really creative and experiment with different scents and recipes. Have a scroll through Pinterest and google search for some recipe ideas.

– Start by removing your block of soap from its plastic container. Then chop up your base into smaller chunks and add them to your glass bowl. I used the microwave to melt my soap base. I melted my soap into 30-second intervals. I would stir it using my wooden spoon between microwaving it. Once it was nice and smooth I was ready to add my essential oils and ingredients.

– For the Rose scented soaps, I added 20 drops of rose essential oil to 400 ml of melted soap base, you could add more if you wanted a stronger scent.

– For the lavender and lemongrass soaps, I added 30 drops of each oil into 400 ml of melted soap base and stirred. If the scent is not strong enough for you then you can add more drops.

– I then poured my liquid mixture into my soap moulds. If your soap starts to thicken before you pour then simply pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds to melt it again.

– You can use rubbing alcohol on the back of your soap to stop bubbles from forming. I didn’t so this step. I didn’t mind the bubbles as they were on the back of the soap and you didn’t notice it.

– Pop your soap moulds into the fridge to set. I leave mine in the fridge for an hour but I noticed that they did set quicker. A little tip! To avoid spilling your soap moulds on the way to the fridge, simply place them on a baking tray. This will help stop them from spilling.

– Once set remove your soaps from the moulds. My favourite thing to do is remove the soaps from the moulds! I just love seeing them taking shape.

My favourite thing to do is to style up my soaps and get them ready to give as gifts. You will see below that I popped some in a teacup. I thought this would be a great way of giving them as a present. You could get some cellophane wrap and wrap the teacup it and add a bow. You could also use some old fabric scraps to make some small gift bags and pop your soaps into them. The ideas for wrapping them are endless. If you are giving them as gifts then make sure to write down the ingredients of your soaps as some people may be allergic to them. I have used these soaps and they did not irritate my skin but always be cautious when giving them to people who might have sensitive skin.

Please check out my Youtube video below to get a better idea of how I made these soaps.
