Why every lady needs a swing dress in their wardrobe

Vintage style dresses from Rock Frocks

Do you ever feel like clothes today are just not made for ladies with a shapely frame? I adore the style and fashion of the ladies in the 1950’s. The shapely figures with nipped in waists and full swing skirts. Sometimes I struggle with the fit of clothes today. Even though I am petite, as I have a curvier frame, I sometimes have to get a larger size for my bust or my hips and the dress ends up being too big everywhere else. This is why I adore the vintage style tea dresses as they flatter your shape, whether you are slim or curvy, a size 8 or 20 they create an hourglass shape.

Today I have four different shape dresses to share with you from Rock Frocks.

Royal ballett swing dress €70

Flattering for all shapes

Some people think sexy is wearing as little clothing as possible, booty shorts and having your midriff showing. Each to their own, however, I think there is nothing sexier than a red lip and a ladylike dress. A dress that hugs the shape of your curves, that shows your waist and looks elegant.  All of the dresses in today’s post I am wearing a size 10. The guys at Rock Frocks do sell petticoats if you want to go full on vintage and emphasise that little waist with some full tulle underneath. All of the dresses from today I shot without a petticoat but you can still see how the shape of the dresses emphasise your waist making it look smaller. Whether you are petite or tall, broad or narrow these swing dresses flatter almost any figure.

Light pink lace dress €90

Elegance for every occasion

Whether you need a dress for a wedding, a party or just a gorgeous day dress then nothing beats the classic shape of a swing dress. I adore this nautical stripe dress. For me, I will be wearing this when I am rambling around on my day off. I am hoping to go on holidays in September and this will be gorgeous with a straw bag and floppy hat in the sunshine. Elegant for evening beach strolls. It reminds me of a vintage dress you would see Coco Chanel wearing in the south of France.

Annie navy and white stripe dress €65

Timeless

Swing dresses never go out of style. Nowadays, clothing and trends seem so disposable. Constantly changing and quickly becoming dated, so, I try and stay away from items that are super trendy and prefer to invest in classic pieces that you can wear over and over again. All of the dresses I have today are perfect examples of dresses that you could wear now or in a few years. The prints of these dresses and shapes are just timeless.

When it comes to dressing for an occassion I prefer to stick to something that is classic and elegant. I want a dress that I am comfortable in, not one that I will look back on photos in years to come and cringe. I love a lady like style, kind of like something Kate Middelton would wear. I just think here style is so effortless.

Lily navy tulip dress €70

The four dresses in today’s post are from a shop in Athy Co. Kildare called Rock Frocks. The store is less than an hour from Dublin or you can shop the dresses on their online store. Their online store was so popular that they opened their shop in Athy. I haven’t visited the store but I do know that they also sell shoes, tops, coats, handbags and even kids clothing as well as all of the gorgeous dresses. The best thing about this store is the range of sizes. They start at a size 8 up to a 26. I found all of the dresses true to size and none of them were a small fit on me. I am 4ft 11 so bear that in mind when judging the length. I find these dresses to be really good value for money, they are well made and the fabric is really good quality.

You can check out their website here. They are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Love vintage dresses too. As, like you said, curvier women cannot find proper fitting in nowadays dresses. Don't even talk about alterations that could double the price of the dress! I liked TopShop for that as I found a perfect yellow tea dress that fitted my busty size while remaining niped at the waist.
