Amara Interior blog awards 2017

Hi everyone, I have to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who reads, watches and comments on my blog as last week in London we won best interior lifestyle category at the Amara Interior Blog Awards. I am still pinching myself as those of you who follow me on Snapchat would know that I am always the nominee never the winner, I have perfected my losing face, so, to hear my name called as the winner was really emotional! I put together a Vlog of my trip to London which you can watch below. I had a brilliant time at the awards and I met so many lovely people, lots of new friends were made.
I also want to say a big well done to the ladies in my category, these women have amazing blogs and are really talented and hard-working, to even be in the same category as the was amazing. You can catch the full list of finalists and the winners by clicking here. The best thing about the awards night was the sense of support and the friendly atmosphere. The awards were hosted by Sophie and Daniel from the great British interior design show and it was held in the swanky design museum just of Kensington high st.
The next day I had a little bit of a sore head! The awards were sponsored by Sipsmith gin so lots of celebratory gins were had. To clear my hangover I went on a ramble around Kensington and Chelsea. I really wanted to see the red Ivy at Kynance Mews and I also wanted to get a picture of the gorgeous pink house that is 14 Trevor Square. So, have a look at the video below and see what pretty houses I stumbled across.

Thanks so much for reading, don't forget to hit the subscribe button when watching the video and I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you again,
Catherine.

Ikea hack | DIY blanket ladder

Ikea Satsumas Hack

For ages, I have been wanting to get one of them gorgeous shabby chic style ladders to hold my blankets and scarfs. However, this old farmhouse, shabby chic style wooden ladders are really expensive to buy! I was having a scroll through Pinterest on how to make one for myself and I found loads of helpful DIY posts, the only thing about them was I would have to get wood, measure, cut, saw and hammer. I was willing to give this a go but when I was scrolling through the new Ikea catalogue I stumbled across the Satsumas ladder flower pot stand.  I went to Ikea to have a look at it and it was exactly what I was looking for, it was a nice size, not too small and not too big or clunky so I decided to buy it and use it for my project.

Turn a wire baking tray into a noticeboard

Today I have a really fun DIY, it is so simple to do that anyone can try it. I was recently at a filming of Showhouse Showdown and in one of the office rooms, there was a gorgeous wire noticeboard with quotes clipped on it. I wondered where they got it from but when I googled I stumbled across a DIY on Pinterest where they sprayed some wire baking trays and hung them as noticeboards. So, I decided to give it a go myself.

Dainty's day off style

My casual day off denim look

I know what you are thinking, "Dainty? Your wearing jeans!" I know! lol, This is my second pair of jeans to wear. You might remember back in Summer I bought my first pair in years! Well, I decided to treat myself to a second pair for Autumn. I only really wear them on my day off and still prefer my dresses but I am liking being able to throw on a pair of jeans if I need to pop out on my day off.

I thought I would share my fave pieces with you in today's post that are perfect for a cosy Autumn day off. I am liking the cosy jumper, skinny jeans and scarf combo on my days off.
My Jeans are the Petite Bailey high waist from Dorothy Perkins. They also come in the normal and tall range also. I still struggle to find a pair of jeans that flatter my figure and have a nice fit. I decided to get the Bailey as they have a high waist and I feel like they hold my tummy in. I also got them in a darker wash for Autumn. I think they will look fab with tan ankle boots coming into Winter.

Knitted Jumpers

I normally avoid knitted jumpers as I feel they add bulk to my small frame. However, lately, I have been trying more of them on when I am out shopping. I noticed that if I stick to lightweight options over bulky ones that they aren't that bad. Also tucking the front of them into your high waist jeans shows off your waist and gives you a nice silhouette. The jumper I am wearing above is a Petite jumper from Dorothy Perkins.

A chunky scarf

The weather so far this Autumn has been quite mild. I love throwing on a chunky scarf to keep me warm when running to the car. Some days it is mild and I don't bother with a jacket but the mornings and evenings are chilly so I like to keep a warm scarf in the car or office. I also am loving that there are lots of lighter shades of scarves this season, I am not a fan of dark colours and love the brighter pastel colours and checks.

I hope you liked today's post, Please let me know if you have any denim recommendations for me as I am always on the lookout for new jeans to wear.

Video| My trip to Bruges

Bruges travel guide

A few days ago I spent three days in the magical town of Bruges. Bruges is in Belgium and is around 1 hour 30 mins from Brussels by train. I wanted to share a detailed post and share everything from Where I stayed, how I got to it and all of the touristy things I did. I really fell in love with this town, it has cobbled streets, medieval buildings and it is a town full of charm.

I made a dress, Dressmaking with Angeline Murphy

I made a dress

Those of you who have followed me for a while will know that one of my goals for this year was to make a dress from scratch and improve on sewing. The gorgeous Angeline Murphy from the great British sewing bee was so kind and offered to teach me. I put together a video of the day which you can watch below to see how we constructed the dress.
