Daintys rescued chairs!

Hi everyone.

Today I am going to share with you how I saved these two chairs from becoming fire wood, or worse still they could of ended up in a Halloween bonfire. 

One chair I got for free of a local buy and sell site and then the violin back chair I got from my friends mam who was throwing it into a skip. 

For both chair I used my own chalk paint recipe made with plaster of Paris. The recipe is in my previous post. 

As both chairs had some stains and one was left out in rain I used zinnser bin shellac based primer to stop any of the stains bleeding though. 

I cannot reccomend primer enough as i learnt the hardway with a mahogany table that I painted and decoupaged and when I went to varnish I got a horrible yellow bleed through and all my hard work went to waste. 

As a precaution I use one coat of primer on all my pieces. 

Even the branded chalk paints that say no priming I find misleading as I had my disaster using one of the expensive brand name chalk paints. 

My new thing is experimenting with fabric. 

Both chairs never had a cushion so on both I made a fancy new cushion. 

Great way of bringing a piece alive and quicker than decoupage too! 

The above lilac chair cushion is made from a €1.50 tea towell from primark. 

I staple gunned it down and added gingham trim to hide my staples. 

I used a glue gun for the trimming and covered edges with bows. 

This cushion is actually from primark and I did the exact same as above but this chair was easier as it was an easier shape to work with. It had a clean square shape on base compared to the curved edges on the lilac chair. 

Even blondie is getting in on the upholstering action! 

This would be a fantastic way of revamping your kitchen chairs and save yourself a fortune on a new set. 

I use a bit of fabric to add colour to the chair. When your bored of the colour and are changing your colour scheme then simply snip them off and try a different fabric. 

There could be easier ways to upholster the cushions but this was my first experiment and will be practising to get the cushion more neater and perfect lines but I think I done okay for my first attempt.
